The McNamara Fallacy, named after U.S. Secretary of Defense Robert McNamara, highlights the mistake of making decisions based solely on easily measurable metrics while ignoring broader qualitative factors.
This approach led to strategic failures during the Vietnam War by focusing on body counts as the primary measure of success.
In business, this fallacy manifests when companies prioritize simple metrics like sales figures or website traffic, neglecting more comprehensive indicators such as customer satisfaction, employee well-being, and long-term sustainability. This narrow focus can result in misguided decisions and overlooked opportunities.

2. Report: New Actions to Implement President Biden’s Executive Order on AI (NIST)
The National Institute of Standards and Technology (NIST) has released four draft publications intended to help improve the safety, security, and trustworthiness of artificial intelligence (AI) systems, to Implement President Biden’s Executive Order on AI.
NIST has also launched a challenge series that will support the development of methods to distinguish between content produced by humans and content produced by AI. The NIST publications cover varied aspects of AI technology.
The 4 drafts are:
- NIST’s AI Risk Management Framework (AI RMF)
- NIST’s Secure Software Development Framework (SSDF)
- Offers transparency in digital content, which AI can alter
- Proposal for developing global AI standards
These publications are initial drafts, open for public feedback before submitting final versions later this year.

3. Sector: AI At The Service Of Sharing Economy (GlobalData)
GlobalData’s Sharing Economy (2024) report predicts the sharing economy market will reach over $1 trillion in revenue by 2031. As this model reaches maturity, the companies applying it, harness new technologies, artificial intelligence (AI) included.
AI’s importance lies in its ability to improve personalization, efficiency, and innovation within the sharing economy, thereby driving growth and enhancing consumer satisfaction.
