1. Spark of the Week: AI Is Redefining Popup & Digout Thinking (Source: Yesha on Human Thinking)
Background
In our journey to understand the changing nature of human thinking in the age of AI, I stumbled upon the classic distinction between Popup knowledge and Digout knowledge.
- Popup Knowledge: information readily available in your memory, easily recalled without deep effort, and handy to use immediately.
- Digout Knowledge: information that requires effortful retrieval, deep thinking, or exploration to recall or uncover. It takes time and effort to access.
Most people know (on a popup level) how much 2+3 is, what France’s capital is, and that boiling water should not be touched.
It will take us much more time to digout how much 223×332 is, the top 5 cities in France, or what happens when water meets Lithium (tip: this should be popup life-saving knowledge for Tesla owners).
In the past, experts typically held vast interconnected popup knowledge within their fields. For example:
- A medical expert instantly recalls symptoms of common diseases.
- A software developer quickly remembers essential syntax and functions.
- A historian effortlessly recalls important dates and events.
Shift to Digital
The digital age has already fundamentally altered knowledge retrieval and memory:
- We remember fewer specific details because the information is instantly accessible online.
- Digout processes have significantly accelerated due to digital tools such as Google Search.
- Essential new skills have become popup knowledge, such as advanced search techniques, using quotation marks for precise queries, or specifying parameters like “from:user@xyz” in email searches.
- Instant navigation via GPS and map apps transforms geographical knowledge from digout to popup, eliminating the need for extensive memorization.
- Video tutorials and AI-driven interactive learning platforms convert complex procedures, such as home repairs or software installations, into readily available popup knowledge.
Shift to AI
AI profoundly reshapes our relationship with both popup and digout knowledge. Consider these impactful examples:
- AI-driven summaries enhance popup knowledge, making it more context-specific and precise. Users can quickly internalize and utilize these summaries as needed.
- AI-generated visual representations turn complex ideas into memorable popup visuals, facilitating quicker understanding and recall.
- Predictive AI transforms digout knowledge into immediate pop-up knowledge by anticipating user needs. For example, surgeons might receive real-time, context-sensitive checklists automatically after each procedure step.
- AI tools dynamically curate and present digout knowledge based on real-time contexts, substantially reducing cognitive load and improving decision-making efficiency.
For Leaders
AI does not simply accelerate traditional information retrieval methods; it fundamentally redefines our cognitive processes in content and method.
AI tools will evolve substantially in the coming years, as will our interaction methods with these technologies.
Leaders must proactively engage with emerging AI technologies, explore their full potential, and cultivate a culture of adaptability, innovation, and critical reflection.
Embracing continuous experimentation, maintaining curiosity, and actively reflecting on the evolving human-AI relationship will be essential for future-ready leadership.
2. Review: Illusory Knowledge – Students Mistakenly Believe They Are Learning (Source: Ethan Mollick)
Key Points (MindLi Spark AI on 19-Mar-2025):
- The Homework Apocalypse has occurred, with AI capable of completing traditional homework. This has led to concerns about its effectiveness as a learning tool and assessment measure.
- A significant percentage of students (82% of undergraduates and 72% of K-12 students) use AI for schoolwork, often without perceiving it as cheating, while many educators struggle to adapt their teaching methods.
- Relying on AI for homework can create “Illusory Knowledge,” where students mistakenly believe they are learning effectively even as their understanding diminishes.
- Teachers face a “Detection Illusion,” believing they can quickly identify AI-generated work, which leads to outdated assessment methods that do not account for the advancements in AI technology.
- To effectively integrate AI into education, a shift in focus is needed, centering on enhancing critical thinking and learning rather than merely using AI as a crutch for completing assignments.
3. Technical Review: NotebookLM – Five Game-Changing Features (Source: Tiago Forte, YouTube, 30m)
“A year ago, NotebookLM was just an experiment by Google. Now, it’s the most powerful AI tool for research and learning – and it just got a HUGE upgrade. In this video, I break down 5 insane new features that make NotebookLM your ultimate AI-powered Second Brain.”
00:00 – 01:22 Why NotebookLM 2.0 is a game changer

4. Business: Google Makes Its Biggest-Ever Acquisition – All-Cash $32 Billion for Wiz (Source: CNN)
“Google announced a deal Tuesday to buy rapidly growing cybersecurity firm Wiz for all-cash $32 billion.
It would be the tech giant’s biggest-ever acquisition.”
5. MindLi Update: 2.0.10 Empowering AI Thinkers With Enhanced Features (Standard Visual and Maintenance Version)
Another productive day at the office as we roll out version 2.0.10 across all platforms – WEB, iOS, Android, and Chrome/Edge, incorporating valuable insights from our dedicated beta testers.
Here are the highlights:
- Enhanced AI-driven auto Boxing feature: Now, when you send a Spark, such as “Buy new iPhone,” via WhatsApp, it will seamlessly land in the designated Box named “Shopping.” This intelligent auto-categorization extends to Sparks, which are added through the Chrome/Edge extension, streamlining your thinking workflow effortlessly.
- Web users rejoice: Experience the convenience of infinite scrolling on the home page. While the concept of doom scrolling may raise concerns, this functionality allows for continuous browsing, enabling a more immersive experience within your train of thought. In other words, if you want to doom scroll, at least do it on your thinking. 🙂
- Multifocal Display innovation: Witness sparks in a new light with content displayed either above (on iOS and Android) or side by side (iPad, web). This enhancement provides a broader view within MindLi, enhancing your interaction with the platform.
Heartfelt appreciation to the team for their exceptional contributions and dedication to making these advancements possible.
