Jensen Huang : AI, Digital Twins to Unleash Next Wave of Climate Research Innovation

NVIDIA’s CEO, Jensen Huang, highlighted the potential of AI and accelerated computing in driving climate research breakthroughs during his keynote speech at the Berlin Summit for the Earth Virtualization Engines (EVE) initiative.

The goal of EVE is to create climate information systems of the future by harnessing AI and high-performance computing. Huang outlined three key advancements needed for this initiative: simulating climate at high resolution and speed, using AI to emulate climate physics accurately and turn raw data into actionable information, and virtualizing massive climate data for easy access by policymakers and scientists.

NVIDIA’s cutting-edge technologies, such as the GH200 Grace Hopper Superchip and tools like NVIDIA Modulus and FourCastNet, play a vital role in advancing climate research and enabling sustainable planet management.

EVE, an international collaboration focused on climate science, high-performance computing, and AI, aims to provide easily accessible kilometer-scale climate information. By leveraging AI emulators like FourCastNet, researchers can explore and compress vast amounts of climate data, aiding in the understanding of extreme weather events’ risks.

Huang envisions EVE as a mission to push the boundaries of computing technology in service of climate modeling, fostering informed decision-making for mitigating climate change impacts.
