At a special conference held in Tel Aviv on July 18, 2022, the national plan for artificial intelligence was revealed.
The conference was held in the capacity of the Minister of Innovation, Science and Technology, Orit Farkash HaCohen, and with the participation, among others, of Dror Bin, Director General of the Innovation Authority and Director General of the Ministry of Innovation, Science and Technology, Hila Hadad Hamelnik, who took the lead of the inter-ministerial team that formulated the program together with the interested parties in the government and outside.
The purpose of the program,at the amount of which is set at approximately 2 billion NIS, is the outline of the national policy for artificial intelligence for the coming years that will enable the advancement, acceleration and assimilation of the AI industry in the government and the economy.
According to Minister Orit Farkash HaCohen: “Artificial intelligence is a critical technology for the leadership of Israeli hi-tech industries in the world.” In addition, she noted that Israel received low marks in the global race in the context of national strategy and government budgeting. Therefore, the minister said, that the national program will promote research, human capital and infrastructure that will ensure the leadership of technology and Israel’s leap forward in the field of innovation with the help of artificial intelligence.
Among the central principles of the program: the creation of open “information assets”, the implementation of AI to improve service in the public sector, a significant increase in the number of researchers in the academy in the field of science and AI, the establishment of a technological infrastructure, and more.
