1. New Technology: Thinking First – OpenAI o1 Approach

(Source: OpenAI research & Dr. Yesha Sivan)

OpenAI has introduced a new series of reasoning models called “OpenAI o1”, designed to tackle complex problems in fields like science, coding, and math.

What we love especially is the fact that it is positioned as a “Thinking…” model as announced by OpenAI (see the graphics above)

A few key points:

  1. These models, available from September 12, 2024, focus on thorough reasoning before responding, achieving performance levels comparable to PhD students in challenging tasks.
  2. The impact of this new model on the LLM field cannot be overstated. By demonstrating human-like reasoning abilities, o1-preview bridges the gap between artificial and human intelligence in ways previously thought to be years away.
  3. Note currently o1 does not yet access files or images… it will probably come soon.
  4. It is clear now that for most knowledge worker tasks that are predefined — LLMs are better than ANY human. The key now is moving from task doing, to task defined.
  5. Is this the end of prompt engineering? today one can ask the model to work with him/her to define the problem and then generate tasks. (agentic AI)
  6. New highest GPQA score (o1=78.3 vs Claude 3.5S=67.2). Read the full article on GPQA in DigitalRosh

We warmly recommend checking Dr. Alan Thomson 1 hour video, explaining the OpenAI o1 model on DigitalRosh. For additional info check the Memo, Dr. Thompson’s blog about that

To sum up, as we always say, you must experience yourself to understand – go for it, and … let’s think together.

2.  Concept: The Godmother of AI Wants Everyone to Be a World Builder

(Source: Wired)

Stanford computer scientist Fei-Fei Li is unveiling a startup that aims to teach AI systems deep knowledge of physical reality. Investors are throwing money at it. Li—who earned the sobriquet the “godmother of AI”— believes in the future of AI. She cofound a company called World Labs. While current generative AI is language-based, she sees a frontier where systems construct complete worlds with the physics, logic, and rich detail of our physical reality.

The physical world for computers is seen through cameras, and the computer brain behind the cameras,” Li says.

“Turning that vision into reasoning, generation, and eventual interaction involves understanding the physical structure and dynamics of the physical world. And that technology is called spatial intelligence.”

World Labs calls itself a spatial intelligence company, and its fate will help determine whether that term becomes a revolution or a punch line.

3. Report: Marketing, Sales, and Service in the Age of AI

(Source: Boston Consulting Group)

BCG’s latest research underscores that AI—particularly generative AI—is poised to transform B2B marketing, sales, and service. But many first movers are stumbling.

According to our survey of 900 marketing, sales, and service executives—across a range of industries, regions, and company sizes—most expect GenAI to enhance key business metrics, with 90% saying they believe it will be crucial to their functions in the next three years. But nearly half lack confidence in their current GenAI strategies. The challenges they face relate to:

  • Data quality and knowledge
  • Alignment on a starting point
  • Security and privacy
  • Scalability and the complexity of integrating AI with existing systems

Central to the problem is the fact that deploying AI in isolated pockets isn’t enough. To truly unlock the technology’s potential, leaders need to set a bold, unified AI ambition.

4. Top 100: The Top 100 Gen AI Consumer Apps

(Source: VC Andresen Horowitz )

The third installment of the Top 100 Gen AI Consumer Apps created by Andreessen Horowitz was released on Sep-2024.

The report takes a deeper dive into the data to rank the top 50 AI-first web products (by unique monthly visits, according to Similar Web) and top 50 AI-first mobile apps (by monthly active users, according to Sensor Tower). This time, nearly 30% of the companies were new.
