On the 3rd session of the LIVE series “Seeking Digital Heights with AGI”, we met Dr. Aya Soffer, VP of AI technologies at IBM Research.
Aya’s lecture revolved around AI technologies – their evolution and current applications. In the first part of the lecture, Aya explained the concept of foundation models – how they work, what they’re being used for, etc. Aya concluded her lecture with a few takeaways for digital leaders.
At the second part, we had an open discussion where the participants asked their questions.
Part I – Dr. Aya Soffer
Dr. Aya Soffer, VP of AI technologies at IBM Research, first introduced IBM – a hybrid cloud and AI company and detailed its 7 focus areas. Aya explained the evolution of AI and why we mostly see broad AI tech currently.
Aya taught us about foundation models and how they’re being used in the industry and why they are most impactful on NLP applications. She explained how the foundation models create new opportunities by being applicable for broad use.
At the end of the lecture, Aya explained what should be the next steps toward AGI and neuro-symbolic AI, and why they are harder to create. Aya concluded with a few lessons for digital leaders.

In the second part of the webinar the participants brought up different questions to Aya Soffer and held open discussion.
