Dr. Ichak Adizes, as a friend and as an established expert in organizational culture transformation & management, was DigitalRosh’s guest of honor on the National Holocaust Remembrance Day 2023. He shared personal memories from days of fear – to insights of love, about what can be learned from the Holocaust, lessons learned to these days, In Israel, but not only, and insights into the future.
In our virtual (i.e., Zoom) living room the community heard him talking about his happy childhood in Skopje, Macedonia, until it abruptly stopped, and the town’s Jews were sent to a concentration camp, and, probably, to their death. Disguised as Muslims, the family managed to escape to Albania, where they found sanctuary with Muslim villagers. His father, almost illiterate but with great courage and tenacity and dedicated to saving his family, pretended to be a doctor. Surprisingly enough, he earned a reputation throughout the entire region, so the little family managed to live throughout the war.
Dr. Adizes, in a lively manner, continue telling us about his arrival in Israel, his studies, and how his doctoral dissertation subject led him to develop his world-wide known management methodology about the democratization of organizations. Adizes took us from the age of power (the strong prevail) – through the age of wit (the wise prevail) to the most needed age – the age of the heart, where culture should prevail. Individuals, organizations, and states can only survive and succeed with trust and mutual respect.
