DigitalRosh community member Tanya Zhelezniak, a digital marketing expert and entrepreneur, researches the topic of NFT. With her approval and support, her article related to the field of digital art, as published by her on the networks (March 18, 2022), is published here.
Tanya explains why she chose to discuss this topic and not something more attractive, such as crypto or gaming: in a time with headlines about war in Europe (Russia-Ukraine) it is very difficult to think of something else that would be creative and useful for the network. On the other hand, we must act in a precise and deliberate manner for the purpose of improving the situation on a basic and moral level, while being sensitive and considerate of others.
Tanya found inspiration in two meetings she attended in February 2022: one on literature and technology moderated by Sharon Moldavi, and the other on Web3 and NFT of the ICC community . What amazed her was the huge gap between intellectuals and technologists in world view and values, giving a different degree of importance to art and technology, and most striking and surprising, precisely a certain degree of threat from one to the other. In the discussions, issues arose that show the disconnection between the parties: Does online content meet the criteria of literature? Is buying an NFT of a strange picture with a cat or a monkey a justified purchase? Is there such a thing as digital art and is it art at all? We live in an era of advanced and smart technologies, mobile devices and digital wallets, social networks where we are all content producers. But because of the informational noise, you don’t hear; from most communication channels – not accessible, and from most technologies – not sensitive.
“In my eyes,” says Tanya, “there is no contradiction between art and technology, like between creativity and innovation. More than once they turned the Maslow pyramid upside down, because they saw that people look for creative solutions precisely when there is a difficulty or a challenge. Winston Churchill was known as a supporter of art, especially during World War II. Many scientists were also artists, such as Leonardo da Vinci. And for years we have been talking about the fact that a successful engineer should also understand art and philosophy. Therefore, asking what is more important, technology or art, is a chicken and egg question. And those who are on the cutting edge are multidisciplinary, trailblazing and bridging gaps.”
