Use Google Search to Check Facts, Images and Sources Online

Google announced it provides users with fact-checking tools and features within its Search platform to help users quickly evaluate the results and gain key context to make informed decisions. 

These features include:

  • About this result: Provides context about a website before clicking through, including information from Wikipedia and other sources about the website.
  • Fact checks: Making it easy to find fact checks published by independent, authoritative sources relevant to a user’s query.
  • Fact Check Explorer: Allows users to dig deeper into topics by finding fact checks from independent organizations around the world, including searching for fact checks related to images.
  • About this image: Offers background and context for images found online, including information about the image’s history, how it’s used and described by other sources, and metadata.

Google claims that these tools can help users feel more confident about the information they encounter online and help them quickly evaluate and share trustworthy content. These tools can be reached via the ellipsis (3-dots) menu near the search results.
