A Program to Keep in Touch with Israeli Scientists Staying Abroad

The Ministry of Aliyah and Integration operates by virtue of government decisions to encourage the return of Israelis staying abroad and assists in their integration into Israel. The treatment of returning scientists is integrated into the national effort to “recover the brains”.In this framework, the Center for Integration in Science and the Business Entrepreneurship Division of the Ministry of Aliyah and Integration operate a program to expose and maintain contact with Israeli scientists staying abroad.

The program is operated through Science Abroad – the organization of Israeli scientists abroad – a non-profit organization that has been operating since 2006, to maintain contact with Israeli researchers around the world and return minds to Israel.

Science Abroad is an international community for more than 4,500 Israeli researchers worldwide. The organization operates 35 centers in North America, Europe and Australia managed by volunteer scientists and provides tools, develops connections and opens doors for Israeli scientists who wish to return to Israel in order to bring with them the knowledge, talent, experience and connections they have gained to the academia and industry as a growth engine for Israel.

The target audience of the program

  • All Israelis with a master’s degree or higher staying abroad, in all fields:
  • Life sciences and medicine
  • Technology and exact science
  • Social science and humanities

The first day of the exposure workshop to the biotech industry in Israel took place on April 4 at the Google Campus complex in Tel Aviv, with the introduction and presentation of the conference participants. Later, there was a lecture by Dr. Gili Hart, CEO of SpliSense, on drug development in the industry, a lecture by Dr. Daphna Laifenfeld, founder of Genetika+, on personalized medicine, and a lecture by Mr. Zohar Gendler, CEO of NGT3, on success and failure metrics in technological start-ups. In the afternoon, the researchers participated in a fascinating workshop by Professor Yesha Sivan, CEO and founder of DigitalRosh, which focused on the blue ocean strategy – a business differentiation method that provides tools for creating new and clear market segments – to distinguish it from a competitive red ocean strategy.

A summary meeting with industry executives in Israel – in partnership with Teva – and led by ScienceAbroad was held on Thursday, April 7, 2022 ,at 19:00, in Tel Aviv.
