The browser war is the name given to the competition for control of the browser market.
The use of the term refers to two periods. The first competition took place between Internet Explorer and Netscape. It ended in the late 1990s with Internet Explorer becoming, almost exclusively, the most used browser on the market. The second competition began in 2003 with the increase in the number of users of other browsers at the expense of Explorer. Mozilla and Opera were the first, Safari joined in 2003, and Google Chrome in 2008. In 2012, Google Chrome overtook Internet Explorer, and as of January 2019, Google Chrome has about 60 percent of the browser market. (Wikipedia).
James Eagle created a fascinating visualization of data to illustrate even for young people, the history of the browser war during the last 28 years (1994-2022).
