Dr. Shoshana Zuboff: On Surveillance Capitalism and Democracy

Shoshana Zuboff is an American academic, a lecturer at Harvard University ‘s Faculty of Business Administration in the fields of social psychology, philosophy and technology. She has authored several non-fiction books, the most famous of which is “The Era of Surveillance Capitalism” which was published in 2018.
In her articles and books Zuboff coined many new terms, which are also used by other researchers. Among the terms she coined are ” surveillance capitalism “, “instrumental power”, “distribution of learning in society”, “action economies”, “a means of changing behavior”, “information culture”, “computer-mediated work”, “informing” (as opposed to automation), “Simplification of work” and “individualization of consumption”
Zuboff received a doctorate in social psychology from Harvard University, and a master’s degree in philosophy from the University of Chicago. Since 1981 she has been a lecturer at Harvard University’s Faculty of Business Administration.
