“Nostalgia Online – Preservation of the Israeli Heritage” is a large-scale voluntary / grassroots project, which is the largest online-archival concentration of Israeli history, culture and nostalgic heritage. The site, which is over 20 years old, still maintains (perhaps on purpose) an old look and old quality, but information items are added to it all the time. You can contribute values to existing or new topics, photos and collections on existing topics to enrich the database, and of course, a financial contribution for the preservation of the heritage.
The site is divided into dozens of sub-sites (“portals”) and in them hundreds of chapters containing together hundreds of thousands of items of information, values, images, video clips, presentations, articles, research summaries, sound clips and more. There are “portals” on many topics such as in the kibbutz, in the neighborhood, postcards and symbols, today in history, immigration, holiday and holiday, forgotten childhood, clothing, music, games and toys. Things we forgot or didn’t even know.
The sources for the site’s contents are based on studies, articles and various written materials by David Sela – The founder and editor-in-chief of the site, from the writing of chapters on themes or values by the directors of the various chapters and research assistants, from material streamed to the site by thousands of surfers and collaborations with dozens of private and institutional entities related to the preservation of Israeli collective memory, which all together created a growing research fabric of important information First class national.
It is a magnet for anyone seeking to expand their knowledge in the fields of Israeli nostalgic cultural history and heritage and is used by students, students, writers, researchers of the Land of Israel and its culture, journalists and media persons, event producers and exhibition organizers, book publishers, film producers and television and radio program editors, museum and archive managers and more.
The site is also used in the Israeli education system and is in regular use by many pedagogical factors.
The site does not operate for profit, does not conduct any commercial activity, and does not host advertisements on its pages. Operated by a team of dozens of activists and research assistants, most of them volunteers, who invest their time and energy out of love for Israel, for the benefit of the task of preserving Israel’s collective memory. All operating expenses of the website are funded as a contribution to Israeli society, out of a burning recognition of the national need to preserve the Israeli national heritage.
