Images and Inspiration With AI: Pinterest’s Jeremy King

Jeremy King is senior vice president of technology at Pinterest, where he leads the company’s vision and the engineering organization responsible for building and scaling a visual discovery engine. To support the mission to inspire people to “create a life that they love,” he and his team rely on advanced AI, machine learning, and a graph database to index and build a network of images so users can find inspiration — particularly when they are not sure what they are looking for.

In this episode of Me, Myself, and AI podcast, Jeremy talks about recent advances Pinterest has made in the image recognition field and shares his views on how generative AI will transform image-based content. “Pinterest was actually born with machine learning and AI from the base. It doesn’t exist without it,” says King.

Jeremy King leads a team of approximately 1400 engineers and about 350 machine learning engineers. Pinterest tech teams are focusing on growing the engagement of their active users, a growing fast number with Gen Z millions of monthly added users. They build new features to enable easier shopping, sophisticated search, and specifically, their data sets and tagging systems to enrich Pinterest’s capabilities.
