“Embracing the Organized Mess,” is a study on defense AI in Israel, published by The Defense AI Observatory (DAIO). The DAIO, at the Helmut Schmidt University in Hamburg, Germany monitors and analyzes the use of artificial intelligence by armed forces.
Researchers Inbar Dolinko and Liran Antebi (PhD.) argue in this paper that despite notable progress, “Israel’s approach to defense AI is the result of an ‘organized mess,’ triggered by Israel’s informal culture, the country’s tendency to let market forces push technology forward, a demanding security environment, and the need to be able to respond to new threats in a quick and flexible manner.”
