Last June, the American Civil Liberties Union revealed many disturbing documents about the massive tracking that the National Security Agency used (and apparently still uses) of citizens’ locations in the US.
In the contract it signed with two different surveillance companies (Babel Sreet, Venntel), the Department of Homeland Security purchased over 300,000 surveillances throughout North America between 2017-2019, during the Trump administration and into the Biden administration due to the termination period of the contract with those companies which only ended in 2021.
According to the companies, the monitoring was done only to deal with problems such as illegal immigration, investigations, and drug and human trafficking.
These are huge numbers that are not yet known if legal at all, but enough to be stopped by the privacy officer on behalf of the Department of Homeland Security.
