An Unusual Event During the “Shomer Homot” Operation: an Iron Dome Interceptor Almost Shot Down an F-15

An unusual event during the “Shomer Homot” operation: an Iron Dome interceptor almost shot down an F-15 fighter jet.
The Iron Dome battery launched an interceptor missile at an F-15 plane, while it was on its way to attack the Gaza Strip during Operation Shomer Homot. According to the report in News 12, the plane was hit by shrapnel from the interceptor.

Another example of the complexity of digital leadership:
The Iron Dome battery launched an interceptor missile at an F15 aircraft during Operation “Shomer Homot”, it was first reported on July 14 in News 12. According to the report, the F-15 fighter jet that was on its way to attack Gaza was mistakenly identified as an enemy target and an interceptor missile was launched at it which did not hit the plane. At the same time, many launches were made from Gaza and there were also many interceptions carried out by the system.

During the event, after the interceptor was launched, the soldiers of the battery recognized that it was a plane and not a rocket and destroyed it using the missile’s self-destruct mechanism. The plane’s crew continued their mission to attack Gaza and only after landing back at the air force base did they notice the shrapnel impact on the plane’s body. During the operation, another incident occurred when the Iron Dome battery accidentally intercepted an unmanned aerial vehicle after it was not identified as an IDF aircraft and it was suspected that it was a tiny unmanned aerial vehicle belonging to Hamas.
