DigitalRosh CONNECT: 26-Feb-2023 (Y23W09)

Y23W09

Over 100 million people around the world use ChatGPT. And it gets a lot of attention. We dealt with understanding the context, the potential, the implications, and the practice of using it (we recommend our course DLC518: Real World AGI for Business). This week we bring the technical side, in a simple explanation intended for non-programmers.

Additionally, this week you will find news about

  • Smart cities for urban decision-makers, local stakeholders, and entrepreneurs (Economist)
  • The five core talent factors that are crucial for digital transformation (McKinsey)
  • Discussion at the World Economic Forum about the Mreverse influence on our lives

We introduce Mr. Imad Telhami, a visionary industrialist and entrepreneur who is the first guest speaker at the DigitalRosh LIVE webinar of the Giraffe series (starting 28-Feb.)

Lastly, we invite PRO members to join the DigitalRosh Professional Tour (In Isreal) on 15-Mar-2023 at the Lubinski Group headquarters. We will meet Lubinski’s top management and discuss Digital, innovation, and the AGI challenge: a unique opportunity for peer learning, networking, and community fun. Digital Cities Index: A global Benchmark of Urban Technology (Economist Impact)

Over the last decade, cities across the world have built digital infrastructure and embedded digital technologies into urban services. The Digital Cities Index (DCI) 2022 is an inaugural ranking of 30 global cities across four thematic pillars: connectivity, services, culture, and sustainability – a tool for urban decision-makers, local stakeholders, and entrepreneurs.

Artificial intelligence (AI), the Internet of Things (IoT), cloud computing, and 5G connectivity offer municipal authorities powerful tools to make cities smarter, safer, cleaner, and more inclusive.

Yet the digital transformation of cities is a complex, long-term process with many challenges and pitfalls, including inappropriate technology, vendor “lock-in”, cost, and even social backlash and opposition.

To help urban decision-makers, local stakeholders, and entrepreneurs make the best use of digital technology and understand the challenges and opportunities the inaugural Digital Cities Index (DCI) 2022 ranks 30 global cities across four thematic pillars:

  • Connectivity
  • Services
  • Culture
  • Sustainability

Combining quantitative and qualitative analysis, and including a survey of 3,000 residents spread across all cities in the DCI, the results show how cities are performing in terms of both quantitative metrics like internet speed and qualitative factors such as the presence of strategies, policies, and plans for technologies like 5G and AI.

The Five Talent Factors That Matter Most (McKinsey)

According to Mckinsey, digital transformations are a significant challenge for companies, and leaders often struggle to sustain improvements.

The success of these transformations depends on both talent and technology. Mckinsey has recently conducted research on more than 30 large-scale digital transformations to understand the talent and technology decisions that drive success.

Mckinsey concluded that five core talent factors are crucial for advanced analytics transformations:

  1. Prioritizing the hiring of senior digital leaders;
  2. Rethinking the value proposition for digital talent;
  3. Hiring internally with a high bar on technical skills;
  4. Building a learning and development program for digital talent; and
  5. Evaluating trade-offs between immediate results and long-term capability building.

Person of the Week: Imad Telhami

Imad Telhami is a visionary industrialist and entrepreneur for whom significant social action is an integral part of every endeavor, aspiring to transform Israeli society through its business sector. Imad Telhami has substantial management experience and a long and successful history in global management.

Imad is a remarkable businessman who harnessed the managerial experience and unique skills he gained at Delta Galil to establish Babcom Centers, a highly successful technology company providing superior professional services to leading corporations.

Babcom Centers is a multicultural company whose managers, as well as employees, Arabs and Jews, are committed to providing their customers with first-rate service. In line with Telhami’s vision, the company has Arab and Jewish stakeholders and was co-founded with the late distinguished Israeli industrialist, Dov Lautman.

Babcom makes a real contribution to society through the employment of thousands, mostly women, with a commitment to multiculturalism and empowerment of young men and women via their integration into the local and global economies.

In 2014 Telhami founded Takwin Labs, an internet incubator for Arab entrepreneurs in Haifa, together with Chemi Peres and Erel Margalit. The incubator was founded with the intention to enable more Arabs to successfully integrate into the Start-up Nation in Israel, realize their potential, and create successful high-tech companies.

Telhami has served in positions on several councils and boards of directors and has participated in a number of projects with partners who share his commitment, including The Lautman Fund, and Appleseeds Academy, members of the Board and Executive Committee of the University of Haifa.

He is a member of the Board of Kav Mashve (a non-profit organization that through academic work seeks equality between Arabs and Jews), and a member of the Advisory Committee for Economic Development in the Arab, Druze, and Circassian sector, in the Prime Minister’s Office

Imad Talhami and Offer Shapira, Babcom CEO, are the first speakers of DigitalRosh LIVE – the Giraffe series, starting on 28-FEB-2023
